Common issues
An occupation title, a degree or a course offer is only part of the picture. Use the current official visa and assessing-authority requirements for the pathway you are considering. A positive assessment, an EOI and an invitation are different stages; no page or initial enquiry confirms your eligibility or a visa outcome.
Build the qualification timeline first
List the awarding institution, qualification, campus, study dates and the name used on each award and transcript. If your studies and professional training took place at different institutions, identify each one. Ask the relevant institution about obtaining complete academic records before deciding what to submit for an assessment.
Separate employment, service and training periods
If your history includes national service, an internship, further training, self-employment or overlapping jobs, describe each period accurately. Record duties, dates, hours and payment evidence. Do not group every post-graduation activity into a skilled-employment points claim without checking the applicable rules.
Choose an occupation before collecting an assessment package
Teachers, healthcare professionals, IT workers, engineers, accountants and tradespeople may have different assessment and registration questions. Use the profession and assessment guides to identify a starting point. Nigerian professional recognition or a degree title does not replace the Australian requirements for the proposed pathway.
Official character-record route in Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force POSSAP portal lists a Police Character Certificate service. If Nigerian police evidence is required for your selected visa, use the Home Affairs character and country instructions to establish what to obtain and when, then check the official Nigeria Police process. A Police Extract is a different service listed on the same portal.
