Overseas-qualified primary, secondary and special education teachers, early childhood educators and teaching graduates checking their next step. The same assessment route does not apply to every education role.
Requirements
For school teacher occupations assessed by AITSL, check the occupation checklist, qualification and English criteria, and supervised teaching practice evidence. Early childhood applicants should check ACECQA’s current assessment information. A general education degree or teaching experience alone should not be treated as proof that the relevant criteria are met.
Process
- Identify the education role and occupation supported by your qualification and teaching record.
- Check whether the proposed visa needs an assessment and which authority is designated.
- Map the required qualification, English and teaching-practice evidence.
- Check teacher registration in the state or territory where you intend to teach, alongside the visa plan.
Evidence
Use the relevant authority’s checklist. Qualification records, transcripts and evidence of supervised teaching practice may be central to a school teacher assessment. Keep employment information available for separate employment or visa questions; it does not replace the qualification evidence.
Common issues
A migration skills assessment and teacher registration serve different purposes. A suitable assessment does not itself register you to teach, secure employment or grant a visa. Compare timing across these steps before making a commitment.
