Common issues
An occupation title, a degree or a course offer is only part of the picture. Use the current official visa and assessing-authority requirements for the pathway you are considering. A positive assessment, an EOI and an invitation are different stages; no page or initial enquiry confirms your eligibility or a visa outcome.
Coordinate qualification and professional records
List the award, institution, dates and separate professional registration you hold. Australian assessment and licensing requirements depend on the profession and pathway. Use the teacher, doctor, nursing, ICT, engineering or trade starting point relevant to your background rather than treating all qualifications alike.
Explain changes in names or employment arrangements
If documents use a previous surname or your work includes self-employment, contracting or a business ownership period, identify the supporting records and dates. Explain the actual duties and work arrangement; a company title alone does not establish the occupation or a skilled-employment claim.
Plan records for the people who would move
Make a list of accompanying family members and the identity and relationship documents already available. Identify records that may take time to obtain. Order health, character or other time-sensitive evidence using the relevant visa instructions and agreed plan rather than assuming every document should be obtained immediately.
South African police records and previous surnames
The South African Police Service publishes its Police Clearance Certificate process, including instructions about previous or maiden surnames and applications from abroad. If South African police evidence is required, check the Home Affairs instructions and the SAPS process together.
