Subclass 190 — Skilled Nominated visa

Subclass 190 is a permanent, points-tested visa requiring nomination by a state or territory government. Federal visa eligibility and the jurisdiction’s nomination criteria are separate checks. Nomination adds points but does not replace the national occupation, assessment or visa requirements.

Who this is relevant to

For applicants who can genuinely meet a state or territory’s current criteria and settlement expectations as well as the federal visa criteria.

Requirements

Check the national occupation eligibility and the state’s current occupation or selection criteria together. Depending on the program, residence, employment, registration, graduation or offshore requirements may apply. Follow that jurisdiction’s EOI, registration-of-interest and nomination sequence rather than assuming one process works everywhere.

Process

  • Confirm the national occupation, assessment, English and points requirements.
  • Read the chosen jurisdiction’s current program and determine whether a separate ROI, Matrix or nomination application is required.
  • Maintain an accurate EOI and submit the state steps in the published order.
  • If nominated and invited, prepare the visa application and evidence before the invitation deadline.

Evidence

Retain the assessment, English and qualification evidence, together with the employment, residence or other records supporting nomination. Nomination information and EOI claims must remain consistent.

Common issues

A state invitation to seek nomination, a nomination approval and a Home Affairs visa invitation are different events. Meeting published nomination criteria does not guarantee selection. Read the settlement commitment you make and distinguish it from conditions attached to the eventual visa.
