Designated Area Migration Agreements, explained
A Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is a regional agreement framework, rather than a visa an individual can apply for independently. It can offer extra occupations and specified concessions through endorsed employers in the covered area.

Key facts
| Framework | A regional head agreement is followed by individual employer labour agreements. |
|---|---|
| Employer access | The Designated Area Representative (DAR) must endorse the employer before its labour agreement request. |
| Visa programs | An agreement may use subclass 482, 494 or 186; check which route is authorised. |
| Concessions | Occupation, English, age, salary and experience concessions vary by agreement and occupation. |
Who this is relevant to
Applicants or employers in a specific designated region considering whether a DAMA concession applies to their occupation.
Requirements
Check the current region, employer endorsement, occupation, concessions and any permanent pathway directly with the relevant DAR. The employer still needs the appropriate agreement and nomination, and the worker must meet the applicable visa criteria.
Process
- Identify the relevant DAMA and DAR.
- Employer seeks endorsement and an individual labour agreement.
- Prepare the permitted nomination and worker visa application.
Common issues
A concession in one DAMA does not apply elsewhere. A DAMA listing or job offer does not guarantee a visa or permanent residence. Agreement terms and availability can change.
