SkillSelect and the Expression of Interest process

An Expression of Interest in SkillSelect records a candidate’s interest in certain skilled visas. It is not a visa application. An EOI can support an invitation process for the points-tested 189 stream, subclass 190 and subclass 491, with separate state steps where required.

Anyone who has confirmed they meet the general eligibility criteria for a points-tested visa and is ready to formally register interest.

Requirements

Enter truthful, supportable information and check the requirements at the relevant time. You can begin and save an EOI while gathering information, but should submit accurate completed claims and update changes before an invitation.

Process

Check the occupation, assessment, English and points evidence.
Complete the EOI and any separate state process accurately.
Update changed circumstances before invitation and monitor the selection process.
If invited, reassess the claims and submit the visa application by the deadline.

Evidence

An EOI is not a substitute for the assessment, test report or employment records needed to substantiate a later application. Keep those documents and their validity dates organised.

Common issues

Meeting the minimum points threshold does not guarantee an invitation. Do not rely on an EOI or ROI to extend lawful stay; visa expiry and any valid further application need separate planning.
