Northern Territory state nomination
Northern Territory nomination focuses on applicants who can settle and work in the Territory. Current intake restrictions must be checked before preparing an application, even if you meet the underlying NT eligibility criteria.

Key facts
| Current intake | The NT notice, updated 13 October 2026, says sufficient applications have been received for 2026–27. |
|---|---|
| 190 and offshore streams | The notice says no new Subclass 190 or offshore-stream nomination applications are being accepted. |
| Limited onshore exception | New Subclass 491 applications are accepted only by exception for eligible NT Graduate or NT Resident applicants with specified deadlines. |
| Settlement commitment | Nominees agree to live and work in the NT for at least three years after visa grant. |
Who this is relevant to
Most relevant to eligible graduates and workers already established in the NT who need to assess whether the current 491 exception applies.
Requirements
The exception covers specified deadlines on or before 30 September 2027: substantive visa expiry with no eligibility for Subclass 485, turning 45, or a birthday reducing 491 points below 65. The applicant must also meet the NT Graduate or NT Resident criteria. Check the complete notice and the employment evidence rules before lodging.
Common issues
A deadline does not guarantee nomination before it expires. NT employment evidence must support the actual role, hours, employer and salary; remote work for an employer outside the NT generally does not satisfy the published employment requirement unless it services NT clients. The occupation list describes migration eligibility, rather than available jobs.
