Choosing a course: compare the details that affect you
Two courses with similar titles can differ in content, entry requirements, assessment and career preparation. Compare the exact course and campus against your existing skills and intended work, then test the practical commitment before accepting an offer.

Who this is relevant to
Use this approach when narrowing a field of study or comparing offers from different institutions. Record the source and date for each fact, especially fees, intakes and recognition status.
Requirements
Check the specific course and campus on CRICOS for study on a Student visa. For higher education, check TEQSA provider status; for VET, confirm the RTO and training scope on training.gov.au. Professional accreditation or skills-assessment recognition is a separate check.
Process
- Write down the skills and target work the course should support.
- Compare the published course outlines and identify prerequisites or gaps in your background.
- Ask providers to confirm unclear entry, credit, placement, fee and refund conditions in writing.
- Check any Student visa or transfer effect before committing to a change of study.
Evidence
Keep course handbooks, written offers, fee schedules, credit decisions and recognition links. For higher education, ComparED can add student-experience and graduate-outcome context; compare like cohorts and fields rather than a headline ranking.
Common issues
An advertised course title, low deposit or high AQF level is not enough to show that a course is suitable. New overseas commencements in BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) ceased on 5 October 2026. Check that any proposed course or package is currently available, rather than relying on an old brochure.
