Plan your enrolment around your Student visa
Choosing a course involves more than obtaining an offer. Confirm the exact campus, entry requirements, dates, fees and written agreement, then check that the enrolment plan fits your visa circumstances. This guide focuses on course and enrolment decisions; our Subclass 500 migration guide covers visa eligibility and family rules.

| Offer and CoE | Read the offer conditions and written agreement. A CoE records enrolment; it does not guarantee a visa. |
|---|---|
| Intake and course dates | Confirm commencement, completion and any gaps between courses before accepting a package. |
| Exact course and campus | Verify the provider and specific course on CRICOS, including the delivery location. |
| Further study in Australia | A new enrolment does not automatically permit a further onshore Student application. |
| Provider transfer | Non-school students are generally restricted during the first twelve months of their principal course until 30 June 2027, subject to release and other exceptions. |
Who this is relevant to
For prospective students comparing offers and current students considering another intake, course package or provider. Bring the course code, campus, current CoE and proposed dates to any review.
Requirements
Compare academic and English entry requirements directly with the provider. Check deposits, refund and deferral terms before accepting. For further onshore Student applications relying on course progression, Home Affairs generally permits only one future course, with limited packaging exceptions for school study, PhD study or provider default. Obtain a specific visa check before accepting a multi-course offer.
Process
- Compare the course content, assessment, campus and any required placement with your background and goals.
- Verify registration, the written agreement, refund conditions, total course commitment and available intake with the provider.
- Map the actual course dates and identify any credit, deferral, package or provider-transfer issue.
- Check the visa effect before paying for a change, cancelling a CoE or assuming you can remain in Australia for further study.
Evidence
Keep the offer, written agreement, CoE, course outline, credit decision and relevant correspondence together. If your plan changes, obtain the provider’s written explanation of the enrolment effect and check the visa position separately.
Common issues
The transfer period runs from the principal course, which may be the last course in a package, rather than from arrival in Australia. A release from a provider and permission under visa rules are separate questions. The Government has announced a Student Transfer stream intended for 2027; it is still being developed and is not an available application route at this review date.
