The Competency Demonstration Report (CDR), explained

The Competency Demonstration Report route asks Engineers Australia to assess the engineering knowledge and competency you can demonstrate. It is used for non-accredited qualifications and certain other cases, rather than acting as a general writing exercise or a replacement for your academic records.

Who this is relevant to

Applicants whose selected Engineers Australia route requires a CDR, including some holders of accredited qualifications seeking a different occupation.

Requirements

Use the migration checklist for identity, CV, academic records, English evidence and any relevant references, as well as the CDR documents. A graduate can draw on suitable academic projects. Employment assessment and visa employment points have separate evidentiary purposes.

Process

  • Confirm that CDR is the right route for the qualification and occupation.
  • Read the category competency documents before selecting projects.
  • Write your own episodes, map genuine evidence in the Summary Statement and prepare the CPD record.
  • Check dates, document consistency, references, translations and the final submission checklist.

Evidence

Keep the underlying project material available while drafting. If a claim cannot be traced to your own contribution or reliable supporting records, resolve it before including it.

Common issues

Follow Engineers Australia’s authorship and plagiarism rules. We do not write applicant CDRs. EA’s NCSE 2026 is a future transition: its current guidance retains the existing standards pending implementation, with migration assessment transition indicated for mid-2027. Use the requirements in force for your application.
